Exmouth is a very nice location offering conditions suitable for just about every level and any wind direction. The seafront is more suited to competent sailors (intermediate and above), with beginners generally preferring the safety of the "Duckpond" (estuary). There are some VERY strong currents at the river mouth, so care must be taken, and this somewhat restricts sailing to either side of high and low tide. There is no substitute for local knowledge, so if in doubt pop into Waterfront Sports on the seafront and ask for some advice. Exmouth has a lovely long sandy beach, so it's also a good location for keeping non-windsurfing partners happy!
Flat Water: YES Car parking : YES (70p/hr) Nearest Windsurf Shop : Waterfront Sports, Seafront Wind information and Webcams can be found here and here. Tide information can be found here. Exmouth is located on the South coast of Devon, approximately 10 miles South-East of Exeter. Access is via the A376, from either the M5, A30, A38 or A3052. Follow the signs to the seafront and carry right on along the front, past the Deer Leep pub and the mini roundabout. The local shop is on the left just after this roundabout, and the main car-park is a little further on. The car-park is pretty big, but can get full quickly on sunny days. There is grass for rigging and a tap for washing the sand off your kit. There is also a grassy rigging area outside Waterfront Sports, but parking here is pretty scarce. |
